Changing shape types

Is it possible to change shape types from one to another? I
have some diagrams where, for example, we would like to
change an oval shape type to a rectangular shape. Is there
any way of doing this on a selected group of shapes or
globally in a diagram?

Nothing built-in to the product, unless the shapes all have masters (ie: you
dragged them from the green pallette)

In this case, go to:

file > shapes > show document stencil

Now you can double-click on a master, which opens the window where you can
make changes to the master.

This isn't a fool-proof "shape replace", but it does allow you to make
"global" changes within a document.

Thanks. I don't think that's quite what the user was
looking for, as it would involve modifying the stencil
shape, which could be used in other diagrams.

Could this be done through VBA?

The document stencil is stored within the Visio file, so modifying it will
not affect the stencil that it was originally created with.
