Changing size of default tab

OK, I can mostly deal with horizontal tabs being the surrogate for a "table",
but how can I change the default size of the tabs. I frequently need to be
able to change these widths to make the "table" work properly, especially
when attempting to format imported data that was in a real table in the data
source. Thanks

Unfortunately there's no Tab Stop settings or a ruler in OneNote. You need
to set the approximate expected width on the first line (by typing garbage
characters to the width desired and manually tabbing). This is carried to
subsequent lines in your "table".

There isn't a way to change the default size of the tabs, but you can change
the column width once you make the ersatz table in OneNote.

Hover your mouse cursor over the text in the second, third, fourth, etc.
column until the icon with the four-headed arrow appears.

Right click on the four-headed arrow icon.

Choose Resize Previous Column (last item in the drop down list).

Hover your mouse cursor just below the four-headed arrow icon and you will
see a two headed arrow that you can click and drag the column width left or
right.

Obvious, eh? I've worked on the OneNote team for several years and I learned
about this capability last week.

Good tip, Lori.

P.S. I sense some irony when some of the program features are not intuitive
even to the makers of the software ;-)

What a GREAT tip--thanks!

I note that on this screen alone I see four discrete posts about this very
same topic!

As a developer, I bet it was extremely challenging for the OneNote Dev Team
to limit the feature set. I'm certain there were about a gazillion things
which were candidates for scope creep but instead were purged. I think it
was better to keep it simple rather than bloat the product with imperfect
code.

Challenging? How about extremely frustrating having to leave things out you
know users would like?
