I would like my presentation to automatically return to the first slide if no
buttons have been pressed for x period of time. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Try putting your presentation in Kiosk Mode (Slide Show > Set Up Show >
Browsed at a Kiosk). Over the years, the function that returns to the first
slide has worked off and on, but I think (although I'm not sure) it is
working reliably in the latest versions of PowerPoint.

Note that if the presentation is in kiosk mode, you will need hyperlinks and
buttons for everything because no keypresses (other than Esc) or mouse
clicks (other than on your hyperlinks or buttons) will work.

That function doesn't seem to be working in PP 2003. Surely a simple macro
could do this?
