Changing text direction

I'm working in a table created by someone else, and have
a problem with the text direction in some of the cells.
Despite the fact that the horizontal box is highlighted
in the text direction option, the text still insists on
going downwards or vertical. Has anyone got any ideas,
any help would be appreciated.

Hi Mark,

It is possible that the text is inside a text box that's in the table
cell, and the text direction you see belongs to the box. Unlikely, but
worth checking.

Thanks for that Jay, unfortunately thats not the problem.
The strange thing is I can scroll accross using the
spacebar but as soon as I enter a letter it reverts to
vertical mode, very strange! Could it be something to do
with fields, of which I know nothing about?

Hi Mark,

No, I don't think you can do anything with fields that could turn text
on the screen (though it is possible on a PostScript printer with a
PRINT field containing PostScript commands, it wouldn't appear that
way on screen). Just in case, you could press Alt+F9 to see whether
any field code appears in the table, then press it again to turn off
the display of codes.

The article at http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/DrwGrphcs/UpsideDownText.htm
lists just about every known way of rotating text. If it isn't any of
those, I'm stumped.

As a final suggestion, there may be some weird corruption in the
table. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm for
procedures to try to resolve that.

Thanks Jay, I'll give those suggestions a go.
