Changing Text fomat to Date

I have a file with a column for Date, and it is suddenly
showing the Text value of the date in the cell display,
but the date value in the Formula bar display. How can I
get it back to showing the actual date value in the cell
display. I have tried simple refoemating cells, but it
doesn't seem to work.

have you tried copying the format from one that you like
to the rest?

You may have toggled the "show formulas" setting.

Tools|options|view|uncheck formulas

You could've hit the shortcut key:
Ctrl-`
(control-backquote, the key to the left of the !/1 on my USA keyboard.)
Hit it a couple of times to see if that fixes it.
