I don't get the reasons why it should be a frequent request. ON isn't a
web browser. Its HTML display capabilities are rudimentary at best. It's
for viewing and collecting information, not as an application platform.

Well I for one disagree, there are times when a link should be a
different colour, because for instance I have to click on it to action
something, or maybe to indicate that I have visited the site.
My workaround is to highlight the text according to the status of the
link.

Count me as a dissenter.
Few websites display hyperlinks as default blue underlined these days. It
seems to clash with every designer's aesthetic sensibilities.
Word offers the option to change the default format for hyperlinks to those
users who wish to do so. Why not OneNote?

Syngai: You actually CAN change the color of hyperlinks however, like most
all syles/formatting options in OneNote you have to do it manually. You just
highlight the hyperlink text and change the text color. Unfortunately, the
text color doesn't change once you've clicked on the hyperlink, but that's
true of OneNote anyway. The links don't change color once you've clicked on
them.

That's helpful, thanks! I've trouble with the default hyperlink color because
of my Windows Dark Contrast theme which I use to decrease the amount of light
emitted from the screen considerably! It allows more time behind the computer
without hurting my eyes!
The problem is that the hyperlinks are very difficult to read with a dark
gray background i'm using! So i've been in pain for at least 2 years now
using OneNote 2007 with my default Windows theme! I have to get closer to the
screen, focus on the text or highlight the text to be able to read the
hyperlinktext which in all these cases bring my out of focus and drains my
energy! The information tool should be flexible on such trifling matters
which suprisingly matter to a great extent for the user's day to day
experience!

this option to become available (if ever), that I want to pose the question
whether someone would know of a hack (registry entry, file, etc..), some kind
of other modification one could make to adjust the current default hyperlink
color?
Who has the knowledge to point me in the right direction, besides advising
me to wait that is (a painful option). Waited too long to contact for help,
because I was deep down skeptical I guess. Should have reached out a long
time ago. I guess better now than never. Anyone?

FWIW:
In the current TP (Technical Preview) the situation seems unchanged: One
can change the color of "normal" hyperlinks but not of URL-hyperlinks to
some web address.

Think we will not see any change in ON 21010.
As workaround for your situation:
Just use a *highlight* as a background for the hyperlinks (using the
"Text Highlight Color" button in the Format toolbar)
Bright yellow as a highlight will for sure provide a better contrast.

P.S. I really do not understand your approach with changing the Windows
default colors. In the past I did quite some scientific work concerning
GUI issues. Using a dark gray background for editing text is not
improvement in ergonomics.
