Changing the font default

Hello. I am trying to change the font default on Microsoft Word OS X
to AppleGothic. It will not allow me to do this as it keeps reverting
back to my original font, Times. I can change all the other font's
except the apple ones. Thanks. Carl

What *is* a "font default"? If you mean you'd like to type in
AppleGothic on new files, then make a style - let's call it BodyText -
whose font is AppleGothic, and a template consisting of one paragraph in
that style. Save the template. Now, to start work, open a new document
from that template. m.

If you want every New Blank Document to open in AppleGothic, you'll need to
change the Font of Normal style in the Normal template. If you're in Word
2004 (why didn't you tell us?) then Normal is in the Microsoft User Data
folder of you user Documents folder. If you're in Word X or earlier it's in
the Templates folder of the Microsoft Office X (or 2001) folder of your
Applications folder. Open it by double-clicking it or File/Open in Word - do
NOT open it from the Project Gallery (which opens it as as Document1 or
similar) - it should say Normal in the title bar. If you make the change
her, save and close, new documents will open in the font you changed the
Normal style to. When you quit Word you may get asked if you wish to confirm
the change in the Normal template - click Yes.

PLEASE always state which version of Microsoft Office you are using -
**2004**, X or 2001. It's often impossible to answer your questions
otherwise.

Paul's directions will work, but there is an easier way (Format, Font,
select a font, click Default, answer Yes), which I assume you were trying
and which works fine for me in Word 2004, suggesting that either you are
doing something wrong, or barely conceivably, that your font file is corrupt
and Word is rejecting it.

What version are you in?

What exact steps did you take to change the default font?

Does it revert on the next new blank document, or after quitting and
restarting?
