Changing the Max Units

J

Jrufin

Hi,
How to change easily the max units assigned to a resource? Say I have
multiple tasks with a resource named "Technician", originally they were set
to "100%". Now I want to change all of them to "60%", how to change all the
max units assigned to "Technician" quickly? I have hundreds of tasks where
"Technician" is being used.

Thanks.

Hi Jrufin,

Open up the resource sheet and change the max units against Technician. Max
units is a column on that sheet.

Hope this helps

In addition to Dave's suggestion you will need to go to the Resource Usage
view.
There, insert the assignment units column (not max units). There you can
change the units to 60% to reduce overallocation.

The alternative would be to let Project do the resource leveling for you.

Hi,

Attention Jim, Resource Leveling does NOT change assignment units..

Hi Jrufin,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

If you mean the Units assigned to each task, the simplest way is from the
Gantt Chart view. Use the Autofilter to select all the tasks with that
resource assigned. Now, Tools/Options.../View tab, and down at the bottom
de-select summary tasks and the project summary task. You should now see
only those tasks with the resource in question showing. Click the select-all
button ( above the ID column) to highlight them all. Now Project/Task
Information.../Resources tab and select your resource from the pick list and
assign at 60%. That'll re-assign them all at once. Now remove the filter
and reset your summaries. Takes longer to write than do!

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

1) If one changes Max Units in the Resource Sheet view for a resoruce, must
one also change the assignment units to equal or less...else Project displays
a message box that overallocations cannot be resolved. Is this the case that
both must be changed?

2) Max units can be changed within a project in ead-only. Project states
that changed will not be saved when project is re-opened. The only to change
max units permanently is in the Enterprise Resource Pool for the user with
then applies to all projects. Is this correct?
