Changing the normal template in Word 2010

I am running professional Windows 7 with office 2010 and I need to set the normal template to reflect our company style which is Times New Roman 12 point with no spacing after paragraphs etc. I can see how to change the default and have done it - generally it lasts until I close down word. Then I thought I had cracked as I saved a document and it worked - each time I opened a new document it was set up correctly. Now suddenly it has reverted back to the original and I cannot seem to change the normal template again. Any ideas?

When changes to the default settings aren't being retained, the culprit is
usually a poorly designed add-in, which needs to be dealt with separately.

As a workaround, you can do the following: In Word, press Alt+F11 to display
the Visual Basic Editor. Press Ctrl+G to activate the Immediate window. Type

NormalTemplate.OpenAsDocument

and press Enter. The Normal template opens in a separate window (and you can
now close the Visual Basic Editor). Change the defaults using the same
method that you tried earlier. When you are done, save and close the file.

I just wanted to let you know that I had a problem getting my change
of font and margin to stick after I'd pinned a blank doc to the w7
taskbar. Strangely enough, I didn't have any trouble getting Word
2010 to remember to save in v2003 - but getting the minor font/margin
changes to stick took hours. Fortunately, I found this saved message
after I gave up in frustration and was about to post a query about the
issue here. :)

I have no idea what add-on caused the problem because I just
reformatted my computer and have added nothing to Word as far as I
know.

To troubleshoot this, take a look at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541/en-us/ (Troubleshoot problems that occur
when you start or use Word 2010, 2007, or 2003).

I'll save the url, but your easy to understand instructions saved the
day for me and fixed the problem immediately. Thanks again.

I'm glad I could help. Wasn't sure that I actually did, though, before you
posted this
confirmation. :)
