Changing the setting for a new word document

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

To Whom It May Concern:
I want to change the fix settings (font and line spacing) for new word documents. Following the help sections (users/username/library.application support/microsoft/office/user templates/my templates and dbl click on normal.dotm) doesn't work since dbl clicking on normal.dotm is not possible.
How can I change these settings?
Thanks,
Fiona

Hello Fiona -

Exactly what do you mean by "is not possible"? It certainly should be.

Although that's not the only way to accomplish your objective it could
indicate that there is a problem that needs to be resolved. Without knowing
what is making it "not possible", however it's impossible to say. Please
reply with specific details about what happens when you attempt to follow
the instructions.

If you double-click a template in Word 2008, you will create a new document
based on the template. You are quite right, you can't edit a template that
way.

If you want to edit the template, either use File>Open from within Word, or
use right-click and "Edit" from within the Finder.

Hope this helps
