Changing the standard calender

B

Bruce

In tools - options: I change the start time to 9:00 and the end time to
17:30, I also amend the week to a 37.5 hour week with a 7.5 hour day and a 22
day month. when I then open the "change working time" the standard calender
still shown a start of 8:00 and an end of 17:00.(the gantt also reflects
this) I want to change these to what is default in the UK (as per 1st
sentence). My machine is stand alone and not linked to a project server,
where I'm told this option exists if your an administrator. Can somebody
please advise how I can do this without creating a non default calender, as
all projects will be based on these times.

Hi Bruce

you also need to edit the standard calendar's working time in tools / change
working time,
select the M for Monday, drag across to the F for Friday and now edit the
times.

However, this will (by default) only do it for the current project. If
you're sure that this is what you want and you've check all is OK you can
copy this calendar to global.mpt (tools / organizer) and then all new
project files will have this as their standard calendar.

The default start and end time on the Tools Options Calendar menu have no
effect on the working time calendar in spite of what you might logically
expect. All of Project's date fields are actually date/time fields. When I
manually enter a date, such as typing "10 May 05" for a task start date,
without also explicitly typing the time, the "start time" field you changed
on that page defines what Project will supply for the time portion of the
entry.

When you are looking at the Change Working Time calendar you will notice
there is a set of radio buttons on the right side "Default Times",
"Non-default Times", and "Non-working Time." The default times are 8-5 Mon
through Fri - that's hard coded and there is no way to change them. You can
create your calendar to be anything you want and you can create as many
different ones as you need but anything other than those hours will be
non-default hours by definition.

This is very annoying. Why bother changing the Default Working Times in Tools
Options Calendar if it isn't pushed through to the default (standard)
calendar and you have to make the changes manually anyway?

I've managed to copy my updated Default Working Time calendar to my global
template (using the Organize option) so it's changed for all future projects.
