changing version of Office from the trial provided

My new laptop came with trial version of Office Professional. We have Office
Home/Student for the real thing. I tried to convert from trial version to
full version using the Home/Student key but it didn't like it. Can someone
advise how I convert. If don't convert and need to install the Home/Student
version, how do I do that? Do I have to uninstall what is already there and
then install the software I've bought? Thanks for the help.

Yes, you need to dump the trial version then install the paid version. Back
your files up *just in case*. (You know how Murphy's Law kicks in...)

Each edition is different and a key for Home/Student will not work for
Office Professional. First uninstall the trial version and then install the
Home/Student edition.
