Hey I am taking this class with a book for windows but I have Office 2004 and I need to change the style on my doc. to traditional but i can't find it any where. Is it possible that my version doesn't have it? And if so do you have any suggestions on to what style would fit it the best? What looks the closes to Traditional?
Thank you.

Hi Francesca:

It is more than 'possible' it is "certain" that your version of Word does
not have that theme. Those are available only in Word 2007/2008.

Skip the step entirely and carry on with the next instruction.

The styles you have in 2004 ARE the "Traditional" set.

Cheers

Wasn't "Traditional" one of the document AutoFormat choices offered in PC
Word prior to 2007? I seem to recall such things as that plus "Elegant",
"Professional" as well as a few others.

Hi,

Crap, I had to start Vista to answer this question thoroughly. Now it's
off in la-la land updating itself with critical updates, restarts, etc.

OK - I ate lunch. Now Vista is ready to work.

This is turning into a big reply and I can feel some disgust at the
Microsoft Windows Office team welling up within and it will spill out.

Short answer:

"Traditional" is a new style that shipped with Office 2007. It uses the
Calibri font, and that is not available in Office 2004.

"Tradition" is a color scheme that can be applied to various themes in
Office 2004.

Almost the same word, but very different functionality.

So in order for Francesca to be able to "keep up with the Jones's" (pun
intended), she has to update to Office 2008. Since it's for a class,
it's probably worth it. Francesca should check with her college store or
IT department to see what kind of deal is available to her. At any rate
it'll cost less than $150 US - maybe even for free (SUNY has a campus
agreement with Microsoft and students are all covered for Office 2008
for the Mac).

To get the Traditional style she should have someone with Word 2007 open
a new, blank document. In Word 2007
On the Home tab
in the ribbon click Change Styles
Style Set
Traditional

Then save the document as a template Traditional.dotx

That template could then be used on a Mac with Office 2008 and that
style could be applied to any document.
