I have a numbering issue that does not appear to have been discussed
in the numbering posts in the various Word newsgroups, or in the
numbering explanations on the several web sites.
I have written a multi-chaptered document and I want the complete
chapter name in the header and figure captions in the form 'Fig 5-7:
Figure description.' A typical chapter title is 'Chapter 5: The Tools
Menu'. The chapter name is formatted with the 'Heading 1' style.
When I use outline-numbered headings, the figure numbers come out
correctly, but the header has the chapter title without the 'Chapter
5:' prefix that was set up in the outline numbering procedure. The
field in the header was '{STYLEREF "Heading 1" \*MERGEFORMAT}'. If I
stick \n after "Heading 1", I get 'Chapter 5:', but not the chapter
title. The other switches work about the same; I can have 'Chapter 5:'
or the chapter name but not both.
My solution is {STYLEREF "Heading 1" \w} {STYLEREF "Heading 1"
\*MERGEFORMAT)
The space between the } { is required to get a space between the colon
and the first character of the title.
Is this the accepted way to achieve the desired appearance?
