Chapter table of contents

Grugs

Greg,

Thanks for your posting to the Microsoft site re chapter
headings in my thesis. Unfortunately I cannot get them to
work. I have tried highlighting the text of chapter 2 and
then clicking Insert Bookmark and giving it a name. When
I try to insert this at the beginning of the chapter,
NOTHING HAPPENS. Can you think what I am doing wrong?

My guess is that I am not identifying the bookmark
properly. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Grugs

PS I tried to email you directly but was unable to get
through on the email address in your reply.

Grugs,

Are you sure you are following the directions closely. You cause me to ask
with your mention of. I just ran a quick test of the procedure and it
worked perfectly.

Try it. Open a blank document, hit enter a few time and then apply a
heading 1 style line or two. Insert a section break hit enter a few times
and type a few more heading 1 syle lines. Select those lines and
Insert>Bookmark and name it Test.

If you go back to the top of page 1 and use Insert>Reference>Index and
Tables then OK you should get a complete TOC covering both sections. Go to
the top of page two, Use CTRL+F9 to enter a set of field code brackets { }
inside the brackets type TOC \b Test then right click and check update
field. You should see a partial TOC with your page two heading.

My e-mail address is intentional munged (I think that is the term used)
because of the amount of spam I get. If you need to contact me by e-mail
you should be able by following the tip below.
