chapter table of contents

Greg, I should have specified that I am using Word 2000.
It talks about Insert>cross-reference and then 'reference
type' in a drop-down box and 'Insert reference to' in
another drop-down box. I can't relate that to what you
suggest.

Sorry to be a pain, but could you bear running me through
this in Word 2000?

Thanks,

Grugs

Cross-reference is not what you want. You want Insert | Index and Tables |
Table of Contents.

Grugs,

Mate we don't seem to be on the same plane here. This has nothing to do
with inserting a cross reference to anything. I can't swear to it as I
don't have Word2000 right here to check, but I am pretty sure if you insert
a set of field codes where you want the TOC to appear (Press CTRL+F9) and
inside the brackets that appear type TOC \b YourBookmarkName. So select the
entire portion you want to include in the TOC, Use Insert>Bookmark and give
it a Name. In the example below the name is Test. Your code should look
like this:

{ TOC \b Test } Right click this and select Update Field. If necessary,
right click again and select toggle field codes. Your TOC should appear.

cified that I am using Word 2000.
