Hello,
Does anyone know why causes the char styles to appear in the Styles &
Formatting list?
A recent internal document in my company explained them as: "A ‘Char’ style
is a style that is created when something is copied from one document and
pasted into another document and the two documents have redundant style
names, but different configurations for the styles. Word becomes confused
and creates another style with the original style name, but then attaches a
‘Char’ to the end of the original style itself. For example, let’s say you
copy text tagged with a Bullet 1 style from a document in which the Bullet 1
style has a margin of 1â€. Then, you paste the text into another document
that has an existing Bullet 1 style with a margin of 1.5â€. Word sees that
the two Bullet 1 styles have a difference in configuration (in this case the
margins) and will paste the text and create a new style titled ‘Bullet 1’.
It will then rename the original ‘Bullet 1’ to ‘Bullet 1 Char’. If you look
in the Styles list, you will see both ‘Bullet 1’ and ‘Bullet 1 Char’."
I have had difficulty reproducing this effect with Word 2003. Could it be
that this is no longer an issue? Our old documents are full of them so I'm
hoping all I have to do is clean them up.
Please let me know if you have come across these styles.
Thanks,
Tarallen
