Character - – - in reply messages

I sent the first message to someone who replied – including my original
message to them. What is causing the Original message to have all of those
weird special characters?

Does this all basically say that I need to fax to find out if Ocean’s
Eleven is available? No calls – no email – just fax the details?

What encoding do you use in your original message?
What encoding was the message that was returned to you?

Was the message format changed from the original message to the reply
message (e.g. from HTML to Plain Text)?

If your original message was encoded as Unicode, did you also use a
Unicode font? (Which the recipient may not have)
