How does Word2007 derive the approximate character count that appears on the
status bar immediately after opening a document?

Why is that count different than the character counts (with and without
spaces) that appear in the Word Count dialog box and the Statistics tab of
the Properties dialog box?

Can the approximate character count that appears on the Word 2007 status bar
immediately after open be disabled?

How does the approximate character count that immediately appears on the
Word 2007 status bar upon opening a document impact the amount of time before
the document is open?
