character count in status bar

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel What do I do to have information about the number of characters in a given line (or position of the cursor) shown in the status bar? It was there by default in the previous Word versions and I don't know where to look for it. A crucial tool for someone who makes subtitles for movies...

Hi,

unfortunately, this is one of the features that got axed during the
interface redesign of Office 2008. There is not much you can do about
it; do let Microsoft know that you really need this feature by clicking
