Character Limit on Resource Names Field

Although I can assign any number of resources to a given task, the Resource
Name field only allows 255 characters. I can export the project plan to
another application like Time Control, but when reimporting information from
that other app, the 255 character limit truncates the import into that field.

Any work arounds or suggestions in general regarding that field limitation
would be greatly appreciated. Project Professional 2002

The only thing I can think of is to pull the loooooong resource name into a
Text field then have a VBA macro work out what the correct resource name
should be and update it.

Have you tried working with resource initials? This would give you a bit
more headroom.
