character styles problem

D

develop

Hi,

I'm using Word 2000.

I'm trying to make a few words in an rtf file hidden but don't see
anything in the styles' list box that suggests it is the hidden character
style. Which item in the list box should I look for, or is there a key
sequence I can use to indicate start and end of what I want hidden?

I also need to make some text double-underlined. Which list item should I
use?

For example, in the line, below, I want the string "File menu" (without
the quotes) to be double-underlined, and I want the string "menu_file"
(without the quotes) to be hidden:

File menumenu_file

Since I can't see, the previews in the Styles dialog don't help.
Keystrokes to indicate start / stop for double-underlining and start /
stop for hidden would be the easiest for me to work with.

Thanks,
Dan

Doug Robbins - Word MVP - DELETE UPPERCASE CHARACT

Hi Dan,

You can either apply the formatting directly (OK if it's only a few words in
one file) by selecting the text and then select Font from the Format menu
and check the Hidden box for the text that you want to hide or select the
double underline from the underline style pull down for the double
underlined text.

Alternatively, you can define new Character Styles in which the modify the
formatting to achieve the effects that you desire.

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a paid consulting basis.
Hope this helps
