characters are being replaced when sent

When I send an email the apostrophes are being replaced with various
characters. This is happening before it goes into the send folder as when I
view it there the change has already been made. It types out correctly, when
I correct it and re-send it reverts back.

Thanks

What encoding are you using (Format -> Encoding)? For most Western
European languages you should use 'Western European (ISO or Windows)'.
Unicode UTF-8 should also work correctly.

Thank you. I changed the encoding to UTF-8 in the tools->options of outlook
2002 and now the apostrophes just disappear. When I switch back I get the
charactger replacement.

Curious! What apostrophe are you using - this one: ' (0x27), or a
different one?

You write "when I switch back..." - back to what: Western European, or
US-ASCII?

Switch back to Western European ISO. I tried US-ASCII and Western Windows
with the same results. I am using the standard apostrophe which I think is
0027.

I think I came up with something that will narrow it down. I sent myself an
email with all of the characters typed out and the only ones that changed are
the apostrophe and the Quote (double apostrophe). They are on the same key.
I'm using a wireless logitech keyboard. I'm going to shut down and plug in
another KB and see if the problem persists.

Well, with the wireless kb disconnected and just using the laptop keaypad I
am getting the same results which makes sense. This seems to be an outlook
issue.

The apostrophe switches to a double vertical arrow (2195) and the
shift-apostrophe key converts to the paragaph symbol (0182)

I know it seems too simple, but here's what I did to correct the problem I
was having with apostrophes and quotes being replaced with other symbols in
my emails:

1. Open Word and go to Tools>AutoCorrect Options
2. Go to "AutoFormat" tab and CLEAR "Straight quotes" with "smart quotes"
3. Go to "AutoFormat As You Type" tab and CLEAR "Straight quotes" with
"smart quotes"
