Chart filling in dates that aren't supposed to be there

I have created a table where the values are measured only during week-days.
The problem is that the Excel line chart created from the table's data wants
to automatically fill in values for the weekend as well.
Thus, if the data range is from columns I through N, representing May 30,
June 2, June 3, June 4, June 5, June 6 and June 9, the chart automatically
fills in values for May 31, June 1 and June 7 and June 8.
How do I get the chart to just represent the dates I have entered, and not
extrapolate for every day of the week?

I should have mentioned that I am using Excel 2007. When I right-click the
chart, "chart options" is not one of the options.

I assume that you may be right-clicking on some particular part of the
chart, and therefore getting only the options related to that part (such as
an axis, a series, a data point, or whatever). Try right-clicking away
from those objects. [In the chart, but outside the chart area, is a good
move.]

Outside the chart area the options I get with right-clicking are: copy,
paste, reset to match style, font, change chart type, select data, move
chart, assign macro, format chart area. Nothing about "chart options".

Sorry. I don't have Excel 2007, so I can't investigate this.

:

Hi,

You could right-click the chart, choose Chart Options, Axis, and
change
the
x-axis to Category.

Excel 2007 has a completely rearranged interface for charting, so all the
familiar objects are gone, or hidden. Chart Options is gone, and its
constituent parts are dispersed to the wind. Right click on the category
axis, choose Format..., and in the dialog, check the Category option, not
Automatic or Date Scale.

Click on the chart, then under Chart tools - design the left hand side
allows to change chart type.

Thanks for your reply and the previous replies that pointed me in the right
direction. In my version of excel 2007, I selected the "format axis" then
"axis options" then "axis type" then "text axis.
