Chart fonts in 2003 tied to Slide Title

Hello All,

I am trying to set a custom default chart type for our company template in
PowerPoint 2003 but the font formating is being overridden.

I create the chart type I want, including the fonts we want (Arial Regular),
and Add it to the Custom Types, User Defined section of the Chart Type menu.
The chart looks the way we want it to in the preview pane. I click "Set as
default chart"
to set the chart as default. In the comments section below the preview pane
I see the word (default) verifying that I have set my custom type to default.

When I create a new slide, then insert chart, PowerPoint overrides the fonts
I've saved in my user-defined chart type and replaces them with the font from
the Slide Title placeholder. As we are using Arial Black Bold for the Slide
Titles, this makes our charts unreadable. Everything else about our custom
chart type is correct.

If you go back into the Chart Type menu and re-apply the user defined chart
type and click OK, it changes to the desired font.

It seems there is a relationship between Slide Title fonts and Chart fonts
that supercedes font formatting in user defined charts. I need to break the
relationship between Chart fonts and Slide Title Placeholder fonts.

Can someone help?! Thank you!

Try unchecking Tools | Options | Edit, "New charts take on PPT font."

Also, you do realize that the user-defined charts don't travel with
templates, right? They are machine-specific. So you'll need to copy the
grusrgal.gra file to each machine. This will overwrite any user-defined
charts that person may have made, also. More info at
