Chart templates on network share

I am testing out Office 2007 for our company and have run into issues
with Powerpoint. We have a network share with custom .pot template
files, but I cannot get them to appear in Powerpoint 2007. With
Powerpoint 2003, the templates wouldn't show up until our custom
GRUSRGAL.GRA file was in the "C:\documents and settings\username
\application data\microsoft\graph" folder, but that doesn't work in
Powerpoint 2007.

I have set the "\\server_name\share_name" path in the workgroup
templates folder location in Word, as well as added it to the trusted
locations list in both word and powerpoint. Any ideas as to what I am
doing wrong, or how to get this working would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Did you just add the server path in the PPT trusted locations, or did you
modify the default locations?

Where are you expecting them to show up in 2007? Here's how it works in
2007: http://www.echosvoice.com/2007/whatgoeswhere.htm Are you trying to get
the templates to show up on the Design tab, or in File | New | My Templates?
Depending on which, you might have to modify different paths in trusted
locations.

Thanks for the reply. I modified the "workgroup templates" location,
and added new for all of the "trusted locations." The templates do
show up in the File > New > My Templates dialog, but, if possible, I
would hear less user complaints if I were able to add them to the
Design tab on the ribbon as well.

Ah. You might have to push those to the individual users' machines, then.
They'd need to go here:

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates\Document Themes

Hopefully someone else will have better ideas, though. I'm not very
proficient with these "shared template" things. I guess you could try adding
that path in the "user location" section in Trusted Locations and see if it
makes a difference.

I actually did try to add that path in the user location, but no
luck. I found an ADM for Office 2007 and installed it locally to see
if there was anything in Group Policy that would have this effect, but
haven't found anything so far. As a workaround, I think I will try to
see if there is a way (via registry or GP) to have Office look at the
network path instead of "C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft
\Templates\Document Themes" for its custom design templates. Thanks
for your help Echo, you definitely pushed me down the right path.

You're welcome. Wish I had a difinitive answer for you!

If you guys are running WinXP, that path would be

C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates\Document Themes

The path I mentioned below is for Vista.
