Graphics and Text

I am using office 2003 and am a fairly sophisticated user but I have wasted
hours on this simple task. I am writinga paper on a literary analysis of
poetry anmd wanted to created a small chart showing graphically the
interrelationships between lines in a poem. So I created in a separate file a
textbox into which I put the lines of poetry arranged in outline form using
tabs. So Far so good. Then I tried to circle various words that are
interrelated and to connect them by drawing various lines between them. No
chaos reigns. The drawings (circles and lines) are not in the text box so
they are unrelated and I cannot move them around in relation to the text. The
order command does nothing. I have even tried arranging teh text in a new
file with no textbox and I simply cannot circle words. When I try to move the
circle (or oval) it pushes the text aside. This has been so crazy and has
wasted so much of my precious time! I have had to do cut and paste
(literalkly with scissors!!) then scan and then insert that scanned "picture"
into my document. Can't Word 2003 be tamed?

Try putting everything in a drawing canvas. Set the AutoShapes to be In
Front of Text.
