Using the below data, can a simple horz. bar graph be made up? If so, how? I'm trying to teach myself charts, but the blind cannot lead the blind...

Born Died
Me 2000
Father 1950 1990
GF 1900 1965
GGF 1850 1935
GGGF 1800 1902

Select the entire range (all 3 columns including the names). Go to
Insert > Chart. Select Bar chart, and the very first chart from the
displayed options.

The simplest way is to use "Born" and "Died" to calculate "Age" by
subtracting one from the other, then format your chart source data like
this:

Born Age
Me 2000 7
Father 1950 40
GF 1900 65
GGF 1850 85
GGGF 1800 102

Use the chart wizard to make a *stacked* bar chart type (age sits on
"Top" of "Born")

Then format the "Born" bar so that is has Border=None, Area=None. Then
click on the word "Born" in the legend and delete it from the legend.

Nope, didn't give the results I wanted.
Select the entire range (all 3 columns including the names). Go to
Insert > Chart. Select Bar chart, and the very first chart from the
displayed options.
