Charting problem

I have spent several hours on a worksheet, the main purpose of which is to
produce chart information. Each time I go to produce a chart I get the
following error message.

Your formula contains an invalid external reference to a worksheet.

I have examined the worksheet many times. Re did it from scratch and keep
getting the same message.

Can anyone help please. Paul F

How were you assigning the data to the chart? What data was actually in
the data range: was it numeric data, or perhaps text masquerading as a
number?
