Charting?

Hi People

I have just emigrated from Lotus '97 and have a charting problem. I am a
diabetic and keep records of my blood tests which I then average out over a
week. I wish to chart my weekly blood test results but do not understand the
terminology Re: pivot charts and pivot tables. How can I do this without any
knowledge of macros etc.

Thanks in advance

It's hard to know without knowing more in detail how your data is set up,
but pivot table report and chart sounds like a good idea,
assume the dates are in A and the blood test results are in B, create a
pivot table and in the layout put the dates in the row and the
test results in the data part, double click the "Sum of Records" and change
to average, click finish, now right click somewhere in the dates field
of the pivot table and select group, select Days and set number of days to
7, click OK. That will give you the average per week and default
to a column chart, you can format and set the type of chart, I would
probably use a line chart.

You probably don't need a pivot table or pivot chart. If you've entered
the data in columns, e.g.

Date Result
1/1/04 8.6
1/2/04 7.5

you can create a line chart from the data --

Select the dates and results
Click the Chart Wizard button on the toolbar
Select the Line Chart type, and one of the subtypes
(you can choose any one)
Click Finish

Debra'a method is quite simple. You don't need macros or Pivot Tables.

If you get stuck, post back and I can send you a workbook set up with a chart
and data sheet which would be easy to modify(diabetic myself).

Many Thanks Gord,
I have managed to set up the charts with Dates, Results and a Code for the
time of day so I can view data in anyway I wish i.e. by dates or by specific
time codes over a period of months, the codes I use, which may be helpful to
others, are: BB = before Breakfast, AB = After breakfast with A or B being
used to prefix lunch and evening meal with bed used for a bedtime test!
it certainly works for me!

Once again many thanks to you all, including Debra, for your swift and
knowledgable response

Good on ya. Sounds like you went with the Pivot Table. Very handy tool.
