charts in reports

I have a little problem that I can't figure out and trying to find
documentation for Microsoft Chart has proven quite elusive.. its such a
simple little problem and I did it once by accident but have no idea how..

I'm doing pretty well with making queries to pull charts from..

the wizard makes it dummy charts and then I go to the print preview and
voila, there is my chart..

however, when I do back to try to tweak the chart a little, to change
the labels or things like that, the datasheet still has their dummy data
in it, with more series than I have often, and etc...

once, somehow, magically the datasheet transformed itself to the real
datasheet, not the dummy one. It has all my data in it, which made
things much easier.. but I can't figure out how I did that, or how to do
it again..

I know this is probably something really simple, a simple click
somewhere.. help!

thanks

Helen,
This has been a bugaboo with charts for ages...
Your chart has a query behind it, and you can access that query through the chart
properties.
1. Run that query in query design mode. (you'll see your good data)
2. Use Ctrl-A to select all records, and "Copy" that (Ctrl-Insert)
3. Return to the Chart Design, and Paste (Shift-Insert) those records into the
associated spreadsheet for your chart.
4. Now your Preview and Design chart views are in "synch"
Of course as you go along, and make further design changes on the chart, they'll get
out of synch again, so you may have to repeat the above process from time to time.

Yes, it's tricky, and I can never remember a reliable way of getting it to
work. However, one way is to open your table/query in datasheet view,
select everything (click in the upper-left corner), copy, then select the
datasheet for the chart in design mode, delete the existing (dummy) data,
and paste (ignoring any message about selected area being different
size/shape).

Create the chart on a form first and get it running the way you want
it to.
Then copy the chart and paste it onto the report.
You're chart will show the correct data in design view.
