Charts in slide layout template problem

Hi,

Using the slide master, I have created some slide layouts to use across all my presentations. Some of these include charts (Pie and bar). When I return to my normal view and add these layouts to my presentation, the charts are locked and I cannot select and edit them.

Is there a way around this or can you suggest what a better workflow would be to access, edit and use my bespoke chart designs.

I really appreciate your advice as I am in a pickle with what to do.

Your description of what you're putting on the Master layout is unclear...
It sounds like you're actually inserting chart objects on the layouts. If
so, that explains why they can't be edited ‹ any objects on Masters &
layouts can't be modified on the slides based on those Masters/layouts.

You can place Chart Placeholders on Custom Layouts [Insert> Layout
Placeholders> Chart] when in Master Layout View, but actual chart objects on
a layout can only be edited in the layout.

Hi Bob,

Yes, that is what is happening and thanks for clearing that up.

How do you suggest that I use charts that are already created with a view to re-use them and the styling associated with them? I would rather not have to style them over and over each time.

Include actual slides in the template. When users create a new presentation based on a
template that includes slides, the slides will also be included in their presentation.

You'll need to train them to duplicate any slides they want to use multiple times or that
they want to modify and use (as with your charts, most likely) and to delete any unneeded
slides.

Unfortunately I think Steve's suggestion is about as good as it's going to
get in Office 2008. This version doesn't support Custom Chart Themes, which
is what you're actually looking for. Perhaps in the next release :)

I don't know if it can be done with an Apple Script that would insert &
format the charts, but that's the only other thought that comes to mind.
