charts lose data

Steve

I have a PowerPoint 2000 arrangement with about 20 slides. Each slide has a
chart and supporting data. I have run into an issue that has occurred 3 time
now.

I go into the presentation and double-click the chart to edit the data. I
add last weeks series of information. I do this on each chart and have then
update all my charts with last weeks data. Great! This works 8 out of 10
tens.

However, sometimes, when following this process - I double click the chart
and my data window pops up, but some data that was on the chart before is
gone! For example, I am looking at the chart on screen right now, this one
shows weekly data so I see the chart is showing me data from Week 1 of Nov
2004 through Week 3 of January 2005. If double click it to edit the data,
the data window pops up and cuts off at Week 3 of December 2004 and I can
see the chart behind is now not showing weeks it was just a moment previous.
Its not just not displaying it, but that data I had added each week is not
in the popup data window anymore! Out of my 20 slides, this might occur
never, one 2 slides only, on 4 slides only, etc - and typically not on the
same slides - ie, this week slide 2 is at issue, last week no slides had an
issue, two weeks ago slide 5, 7 had an issue, etc. I have also tried
rebuilding the presentation from nothing and after using it for a period of
time, I get the problem again. I have tried using 4 different PCs all
running latest service packs and hot fixes to Office 2000, etc. I have tried
storing the powerpoint on the network, I have kept it on my local machine. I
can go to a backup copy where slide x was not a problem and replace it in my
latest copy and all is well again. It is almost as if individual charts or
chart data is corrupting or something, but it doesn't appear to be a PC
issue since I've run from several, a SP or hotfix issue because I've had the
issue at various update levels, a network issue because I've tried it
locally, a user issue because its random and not the same chart, etc, etc.
One item is on occasion when I select to edit the chart and it is going to
lose its data, I get a pop-up that this feature in powerpoint is damaged and
do I want to repair. If I choose no and go to another chart to edit, I do
not get the message. If I choose yes and repair it then it pulls up the
chart with data lost. However, this message is not everytime I see the
corruption either - only occassionally. Can anyone help me out?
