I have Excel data mail-merged into Word for the production of printed
checks. Thanks to Graham Mayor (cheers) I've overcome most of the
formatting hurdles but now I need to (a) fix the start point of some of

the data on the right-hand side (ie. the numeric check amount) mainly
so that it isn't affected by the differing lengths of data to the left
of it, (b) wrap text which exceeds the width of the middle column
(mainly Payee name), and (c) if possible, set differing row heights
within the three (or more) columns as on the check they aren't exactly
level with each other.

Define "fix" -- do you want a dynamic solution or simply move the
starting point someplace else'

(b) wrap text which exceeds the width of the middle column
(mainly Payee name), and

Since we are talking tables here: make sure this information is in one
cell only. Then the text is supposed to wrap naturally.

The same approach might work for (a) as well: Set the paragraph in this
cell to center, then the content will come out as it should if you set
the cell boundaries right.

(c) if possible, set differing row heights
within the three (or more) columns as on the check they aren't exactly
level with each other.

Well, Word's formatting is best tackled with styles: define different
styles with different row heights and assign them.
