Check Names failing in Outlook 2003

Hi,

I have a user who's check names is failing on his account, although I have
put the title as 2003 I can open the same account in 2007 and the same
problem will occur. The problem is that check names is failing on his account,
ie when he types part of an email address which is listed in his contacts it
doesn't seem to search his contacts and comes up with no suggestions. It
doesn't matter if you type first, lastname or lastname, first; none get picked
up or resolved to an email address. If you go to show more names and to
contacts the address is there.

A bit of background to what led up to this is that his account used to be on
another domain, it was backed up and restored onto another server & domain. A
new mail profile was created for the account on the new domain but it has
failed ever since. The same procedure took place for a number of people and
they had no problems.

Steps taken so far...
Made sure check names is enabled.
New mail profile.
Tested in different versions of Outlook (2003 & 2007).
Tested on alternative machines.
Removed the address book and readded.
Made sure the address book is visible when sending new mail (ie it can be
seen when you click on 'To'.)

I've got a bit stuck now so any suggestions would be help.

If theres anything I've missed let me know.

Cheers

Dan

Verify that you are talking about autoresolution here and not
autocompletion. Your description does not make that clear.
Clarify the data store(s) the Outlook Address Book is configured to display.

It is AutoResolution I am refering to, I'm not 100% sure what you mean by
"Clarify the data store(s) the Outlook Address Book is configured to display.
" I've checked under address book > tools > options > contacts > properties
and this is the correct address book for the account used.

Thanks

There is no address book in Outlook. Data store = where this data resides,
as in Exchange mailbox, PST file or GAL.
By which method is the user invoking autoresolution?

Hi Russ,

The contacts that he is trying to resolve are in his Exchange mailbox.
Autoresolution is being invoked by using Ctrl-K, on my mailbox, when typing
part of a name and pressing 'Enter' it will find relevant addresses, this
also fails on his mailbox.

Thanks

Dan

What happens when you open the address book view? Sounds like you still
haven't configured the service correctly.

Sorry Russ, not entirely sure what you mean by opening the address book view.
If I go to the address book, the mailbox contacts are in the list. When I
type a name and it isn't resolved, I can go to show more names > contacts and
it will find the address. If its not that, let me know where I need to look.

Thanks

Make sure the folder in which these Contacts reside is the first one
searched.

I've made 'contacts' come above the GAL under Address Book > Tools > Options
"when sending mail, check names using these address lists in the following
order" but this hasn't helped. When I go the write a new email and click on
'To' should this make the contacts come to the top of the list because it is
still showing the GAL at the top?

Then I have no idea. You've done everything that would work on the Outlook
side of things. Time to check with the Exchange Admin.

Thanks for looking Russ, is there any particular site you can recommend to
take this further?
