Check Names Function in Entourage

H

Harvey

The Check Names function in Entourage is not working properly. I can
access my organization's global address list under Tools-Directory
Service. However, when I am composing a new message and entering a
name in the To:, Cc:, or Bcc: spaces and then press the Check Names
icon, only those names that are in my local address book are checked.
The Check Names button is not checking the global address list.
Instead I receive the following error message: "An unknown error
(~17790) occurred. Explanation: LDAP Server Error. Account name:
"Exchange Account". By the way, my Directory Services default account
is not the "Exchange Account." Does anyone have a solution for this
problem? My IT support personnel do not know how to fix this function.

I *fear* that Entoruage always uses the LDAP server bound to the used account
for this function. Can you query the GAL through the LDAP account setup with
your Exchange account ???

Go to Tools > Accounts, then click the "Directory" tab. Click the name of
the server you use in the "Directory Services" dialog, and then press the
"Make Default" toolbar button. Does that help?

If that doesn't work, go to Tools > Accounts, then click the "Directory"
tab. Click the entry called "Exchange account". Click the "Make Default"
button.

In Entourage 2004, double-click to open it, and click the "Directory" tab,
and then click the "Advanced Options" button. Toggle the option indicating
"My server requires me to log on," and click OK.

In Entourage X, go to /Applications/AppleScript/, and launch Script Editor.
Paste in this script, and click "Run."

tell application "Microsoft Entourage"
set requires authentication of LDAP server 1 to false
end tell
-- Stop Copying

In the future, please state what version of Entourage you're running.

Hope this helps!

Check the configuration of the Entourage 2004 client, do have an LDAP server
listed under tools-Account-Edit account-Directory?
