Check Spelling As You Type does not remain checked

My company installed Office 2007 on our PC's and for some reason the Proofing
option "Check Spelling As You Type" when checked, does not remain checked
after exiting Word Options. The result of this is that spell check is not
checking documents on the fly. None of the standard fixes (Set Language,
delete Override key in the registry, Office Diagnostics) described in this
discussion group correct this issue. The problem also shows up in Word Safe
Mode. Is the spell check setting saved in Normal.dotm? So far, no one seems
to have an answer to this problem.

We have also just installed Office 2007 on some of our our PC's and
experiencing the same problem. The "Set Language" fixture allows me to choose
English (South Africa) but for some reason in spite of my choosing to uncheck
the "Do not check spelling or grammar" box it keeps resorting back to
English (U.S.) with the box checked.
The problem also shows up in Outlook. This is a real pain, someone please
help.

Hi all,

Have you tried changing the Primary editing language in Office?

In Office, for example Word, click the Office button, Language Settings,
Editing Languages, an dthen in the Primary editing languages box, select the
language that you want as your language.

I hope this helps.

First try starting Word and making sure you only have a single document
window open. Then make the change again, exit Word and restart, and see if
the change now "sticks".

If it does then more than likely what is happing is you have more than one
document window open when you make the changes to the options. Unfortunately
these changes are not migrated to all open document windows. If you close
the document window that is maintaining those changes and still have another
document window open, the changes are discarded. The reason for this is the
Registry (where most of these changes are stored) is updated using the
options that were in effect when you exit Word.

I know this may sound complex but the key is make sure you have a single
document window open when modifying Word Options. This drives me nuts too!
