Checkboxes by AddBalance

I found Charles (AddBalance) Kenyon's checkbox macro program and thought it
very good. I used it in about 30 documents that I set up and everything was
working beautifully. Then it all of a sudden stopped working. I
uninstalled and reinstalled it a couple of times in my startup folder, and it
began to work again.

Of course, not till I was finished did I notice his caveat about the
“Drawbackâ€, They will stop working whenever the link to this template is
lost. (They will still look the same, but clicking on them won’t do anything
except select the field.)

Does anyone know if
a) there an update for this program for V2003 and/or V2007 and
b)the best way to get the checkboxes working again whenever the link to the
template is lost and
c)how or why they are lost in the first place and
d)if there is a charge to buy the upgraded program (which I would be happy
to pay for).

Thanks

I can't get to Greg Maxey's website at the moment to give you the link
to the correct page, but if/when you can access the following page,
click on the Up button at the top of the page and scroll down through
the articles until you find one with a title like Custom Content Control
Checkbox.

I assume that Charles's check boxes just use the same macros used by
Microsoft in some of the fax cover sheet templates that ship with Word.
Although macros can be saved in a document, the macros depend on AutoText
entries, which can be saved only in a template, so that template must be
available (by being in the Startup folder or by being manually loaded) for
the macros to work properly.

You'll find similar macros at

Thanks, but I have already put in hundreds of the checkboxes with Charles's
program and don't want to start from scratch. So I am wondering if someone
can tell me how to get them working again once the "link is broken"?

And is Charles not available for responding?

Thanks.

When the link breaks, if you go to the Developer tab of the Ribbon and click
on Document Template, is there a check mark against the add-in
CheckboxTemplate.dot in the Templates and Add-ins dialog?

How did you actually create the documents? Were they created by using
File>New and then selecting the CheckboxTemplate? If that was the case,
when the link breaks in the Templates and Add-ins dialog, do you now see
Normal as the Document template? If so, you could click on the Attach
button and navigate to and select the CheckboxTemplate to re-attach it to
the document.
