checking if printer available

Hi,

I have a report that gets sent to a different printer dependant on what the
user chooses.

The printers in question are dot matrix that are attached directly to a
computer and then shared out.

Is there a way of testing that a printer is available (i.e the computer and
printer are switched on) before the report is sent to that particular
printer.

If yes, how?
