checking / saves / publish taking large amount of time

We are running PS 2007 and its taking about 30 seconds to check in
each project after closing and saving/publishing at the bottom
indicates an estimate of as much as 200+ seconds. It used to say 10
seconds.
We don't have many users at all on the system nor many projects.
What's the deal? We're on the infrastructure hotfix.

Hi Andy,

What does the Project Server Queue tell you? Are jobs piling up there
in "Waiting to be processed" status? Is there a job that is "Failed
and Blocking Correlation"?

What is the architecture of your deployment? Are you on MOSS or WSS?
How many front end machines? Are they load balanced? What services are
running on each of them? Where is SQL? Are there other applications
sharing the SQL box/cluster?

How many users are there - I know you said "We don't have many users
at all", but what does that mean? How big are your projects in terms
of tasks or, more importantly, assignments?

There are any number of things which could be impacting processing
time. Without more info, there's no way to diagnose.

Thanks,
AB

Andy:

Do you have SQL maintenance job that periodically updates the database
statistics?

Gary,
It turned out someone had a publish or check in job that became frozen
in queue mode and there were some other things stacked up out in the
queue.
Once I deleted the (two) "Waiting to be queued" jobs, everything went
through and saves went from 30-45 seconds to 3 seconds and publishing
went from about 45 seconds to 10
