Chef needs help centering menu's

I have been using word 2000 since 2000 and it has treated me well.
Now when I am putting together Menus the text does not center properly when
I use the "center" Icon.
Very frustrating. I end up doing it by eye.
What could be the problem?

I often cut and paste from many base menu's then make custom menu for
clients.

Been doing this for years and never had this happen before?

You might try the following: Add the "center" icon again.
Maybe not the proper procedure for "fixing" it but
certainly couldn't hurt to add the icon again on your
toolbar. Just go to "View" - "Toolbar" - "Customize" (at
the bottom). Then on the left column, choose "Format." On
the right column, scroll down to "center." Single click
and hold the "center" icon and drag it up to your
toolbar. Close the window.

You might be getting extra characters either beginning or end when you
cut from other docs.

The probability is that the paragraph style you are using has 'acquired'
indents. Check format style - in fact if you create a paragraph style to
give you the layout of your centred text, all that is required is to apply
the style to your menu items. This type of specislised task should have its
own template, with all the paragraph style elements pre-defined, then such
anomalies shouldn't arise.

In any case, the problem is exactly as Graham and I diagnosed it. Do you
have the ruler displayed (View | Ruler)? If so, when you click in the
"Crispy Calamari" paragraph (and almost all the rest below it), you'll see
that the ruler displays a half-inch left indent. See

FWIW, I'd use "Happy Birthday, Ann!" as the heading (note comma).
