chemistry/physics

I am considering buying Visio 2003 standard to replace my ageing Visio 2000.
I will be wanting to use it to draw structural formulae for organic
chemistry. These would then be imported into Word 2003. Are any templates
avilable for this purpose? I am mainly interested in straight and cyclic
aliphatic compounds. I found this not so easy to do using Visio 2000.

My sincere thanks for your reply, Chris. I already knew about the 2 web
sites you mentioned. (The zipped file from the first site has "problems".) I
wondered if Microsoft had published stencils for the use of chemists and
physicists. There certainly is a need!

I wonder if old stencils/templates are fully compatible with Visio 2003?

What about stencils/shapes involving resistors, ammeters, voltmeters,
globes, etc? Are these available in Visio standard 2003? (I can't afford
Visio Professional 2003 since it is about $A850!)

Maybe Microsoft should publish Visio stencils/templates for Science
teachers. They would be an instant hit here!

Thanks again. Cheers and best wishes!

Visio at one time offered Chemistry shapes. I can't find them on the web.

A great source for shapes in general:

Chemistry Lab stuff:

Try figuring out what my real email address is and drop me note, perhaps I
can be of further help... ; )

You should be able to use the old shapes in the new versions - so make a
backup copy before you install the new ones, just in case. I'm not sure
about the difference between Pro 2003 and "Reggeler".

I'm sure the differences are up on MS product site somewhere.

Visio has educational pricing, so that might help if you need Prop, but I'm
not sure if that goes in australia.

Check out Visimation.com. They have some biology Visio products that might
cover your chemistry needs.

I have a few old molecule shapes somewhere on my hard drive that I might be
able to dig up. Send me an email. Decode it from this hint: "visioguy at
'extremely warm mail' dot com"
