chinese characsters not english

The presont that worked at this work statio prior tome was chinese and now
when I open up word all the characters are in shinese.
how can i change the defaults from chinese characters to english?

please help

Start, All Programs, MS Office , MS Office Tools, MS Office 2003 Language
Settings. Uninstall all languages except your own language.
