Chinese language usage?

I am in China right now and want my Chinese friend to get used to my
Mac and especially with Word in Mac (OSX version). I have changed the
default language in Tools>Language but I am not sure if it has taken
hold. In a new document I have gone to a Chinese font but it keeps on
reverting to another font (i.e. Chinese characters do not appear). What
can I do to make Word usable in China for Chinese language? Thanks for

If you're using X.3.x, there should be a language icon in the menu bar.
When you're in the Word document and type in it, does that icon remai
the Chinese flag? If it changes, you'll need to select Chinese fro
the drop-down menu. If Chinese doesn't appear there, you'll need t
open International and enable it.
