Hi Brian,
Thank you for the posting. As you indicated, you would like to find
Chinese OCR in Office XP.
Optical character recognition is the process of converting a scanned image
of a printed page into text that can be edited. Generally, a scanned
picture or a page of typing is processed and saved as a graphic file,
regardless of the image, and can only be modified as such. In order to scan
a text image and produce a text file that can be used and modified by a
word processor, an OCR system must be used.
A complete OCR system is made up of a scanner and OCR software, a personal
computer to coordinate the two, and destination software to make use of the
resulting text file.
Some OCR software can recognize and preserve character attributes such as
bold and italics. Some can even recognize document formatting, such as
hanging indents, headers, and bulleted lists.
Once the document has been scanned, the OCR software reviews the document,
marking the characters it found difficult to interpret. You can then review
the text file and correct errors. Most OCR software packages can save their
files into various word processor file formats.
