choosing where to create 2nd (and subsequent) PST files?

Under my profile I have multiple email accounts -- one from my cable provider
that is POP3, one from an online service that supports IMAP, and a hotmail
account. I am running Office 2007 on a Windows 7 computer.

I'm not sure why, but Outlook creates a new PST file each time I configure a
new account under the same profile. That's not the issue I have, though; I
want to be able to control where the PST files reside. For the 1st file I
create, no problem. I configure the email account and get it working, then
close Outlook, move the PST file, reopen Outlook. As per the online
instructions it complains it can't find the PST file, I open the moved
location, then restart Outlook and it all works. The problem comes when I
add the 2nd and 3rd accounts. I can't control where the PST files are
initially created, and when I move them then even if I open them the moved
PST files are just buckets of data instead of active email accounts. I
tried using the ForcePSTPath variable to change where the PST files are
created with no luck.

Is there a way to get all the PST files created when more than 1 email
account is used for one profile to be in a user-chosen directory?

Generally you dont create / use a diferent pst for each pop mail account
unless you select that option - its not the default option

I am also using various accounts in Outlook and it seems to be creatin
a .pst file for each. However, I use this small search tool calle
'Lookeen' (http://www.lookeen.net) to access al my mails, etc.
improved and made my work pace faster for it searches through mutipl
archives an .pst files at once... Maybe it could be something for your
too.

I have never seen an option to use a different PST file for a new account.
In Outlook go to File -> Data File Management and then click on the Email
tab. Choose "New..." and go thru the steps. There is no checkbox or choice
about whether or not to create a new PST file, and when you finish the
process you'll find a new PST has been created.

Not so. Outlook can only have one PST file as the delivery location and will
not create new ones for other mail accounts. That's why there is no option
to do so.
Now if you are talking about IMAP accounts, the story is different because
IMAP accounts each require their own PST files-- that's an IMAP requirement,
not Outlook's. I'm sure you wouldn't have left that basic information out,
would you?

Gee Russ, Santa didn't leave enough presents and you need to get out a
little bile? Or is sarcasm just your general M.O.?

Had you bothered to read my initial post you would have seen the following:

"I have multiple email accounts -- one from my cable provider

account. "

The word IMAP is a dead giveaway, to most people anyway, that I'm talking
about an IMAP account.

Furthermore apparently you don't seem to know that Outlook Connector will
create a new PST file.

If you don't have something productive to post, why don't you go reply to
other threads instead of cluttering up this one from a user that's looking
for some answers and assistance.

I read your post. You mentioned three different mail account types. Why did
you not say you were talking exclusively about IMAP? You waste others time
with inaccurate posts.
