Choosing which verion of Word as default...

I recently downloaded the trial version of MS Word 2003, and all my files
from Explorer were opened in 2003. The trial version was about to expire, so
I uninstalled it, and now all my Word files from Explorer are opened in
NotePad by default. Is there a way to change the default word processor in
Explorer?

JK,

You can change the default back to Word by finding a "Word" document.
Right-click on it and choose Properties. On the screen you should see
the General Tab. On that page, you should also see something that says,
"Open with..." and a button next to it that says Change. Click on it. It
will open up with a list of application on your computer. Choose Word
from the list and it should change it so that the next time you open
this document up, it will use Word as the default. Now, understanding
that, you should be able to change all the other Word documents to use
Word as the default application. However, this method can take forever
if you have a lot of documents. If you have more than say 10 documents,
try this. Open up any folder click on Tools in the menu bar. Choose
Folder Options and click on the File Types tab. Scroll down until you
see .doc extension. It should have the Notepad icon next to it, which
means that Notepad is the default application for anything that has the
..doc extension. Click on it and you will be given the same option as I
pointed out earlier. Click on Change and choose the application to be
used to open the file with the .doc extension.

Hope this will help you in the future with anything that gets alter
because of trial programs. It happens to me a lot since most of what I
download expires and I have to set everything back.
