Chronological Sorting

What is the best way to create a template/document to allow the paragraghs
to be sorted by dates? Assuming the paragraghs have a inserted date at the
beginning of each paragragh.
Thank you.

If every paragraph has a date at the beginning, you can just select the
entire document and use Table | Sort | By date.

Works great! What would be done with the following
exceptions? Say you wanted to do the following.

"9/01/03. This represents a paragraph of the document.
Now I want to add the following items (1 & 2 or bullets)
and have them still be part of this paragraph and
function as part of this paragraph after the sorting
function is run.
1. 2/12/03-this comment.
2. 5/3/03-that comment."

How would I get this example to function using the sort
functionality?

Use a manual line break to go to the next line, instead of a hard return
which creates a new paragraph. In my Word 2001, the keystroke is
shift-return, but Help has additional useful info.

Do the sorting in Outline view. If you have set the first paragraph as Level
1 and the subsidiary numbered paragraphs as Level 2, and if you display just
Level 1, then when you sort Level 1, everything under each Level 1 paragraph
will stay with it.

Hi Duran,
Select Table menu, Sort and follow the instructions. One
of my options is sort by date and paragraph.

I tried this and it works just fine.

You can also sort by text if you have the 08/02/2003
format for all dates. The zeros must be added to make two
digits to sort correctly this way.

Hope this helps,
Kent
