Circular reference crashes project

Can anyone help me fix this problem? I have a project
plan that has gotten somewhat fouled up recently, no idea
how or why. At some point in the recent past the
resource assignments have disappeared from the project
plan in Project Pro 2002, however they still appear on
everyone's timesheets. I have not republished
assignments since I first noted the issue, I was
intending to go back and re-add the resource
assignments.

Today I was updating the project plans via web access and
2 resources reported time on this affected project. When
project pro tried to open the file it indicated that
there was a circular reference in task 70 and that I
needed to use the circular reference toolbar to fix it.
Then the project file never opened. I closed down
project, re-launched it, this time opening only the
affected project, and I got the circular reference error
message again followed by a complete shutdown of
project "I'm sorry for the inconvenience but MS Project
must close now." - you know the one? The "friendly" MS
error message. ;)

Any idea what's up? Have I lost this file forever?
There were a lot of actuals reported in here that are
important for our company's operations. Please help!

Thanks in advance - Karen

Please try the following:
1) Open MS Project Professional 2002, Logon to the server, turn off Automatic calculations by setting it to Manual (Tools > Options >
Calaculation tab).
2) Reopen the project causing the issues, you may recieve errors click Ok to any error messages that fire
3) Save the project as an Access database (*.mdb). Reopen the file and republish to the Project Server database
4) Hopefully no more errors will occur

I hope this helps!
