circular reference error

Hello. I have the following problem:

When I opened a project file, a box came up stating that there was circular
reference; successor to a task was referring back to its predecessor.
Afterwards, the file (and Project) closes.
Is there any way I can open the file and fix the error?

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup

If you can't open the project you can do nothing but use your backup. The
most likely cause is in linking summary tasks as discussed in FAQ Item: 48 -
Summary Task Linking. FAQs, companion products and other useful Project
